Author Topic: Laptop I might get :D  (Read 1297 times)

Hey. I've had a MacBook Pro for about a year now, and nothing's really working out. It's been falling apart, it can't hold that much video, and the graphics are now less-than-par. So, what do I do?
Get a whole new computer, of course!
This is what I'm trying to get:

The Alienware Area-51 m15x. I couldn't really live with Mac for school, because I needed a good computer that could run a lot more programs than my MBP could allow without dual-booting or using a virtual machine.
I know, I know, "It's just a Dell". That's true, but it's also a souped-up, backlit Dell.
...and you can't get much cooler than that.
..also, yes, I do like the slightly boxy look of it. :)

Old specs:

2.2GHz
2GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 8600m GT
~111GB HD space
$2500

New specs:

2.4GHz
4GB RAM
Nvidia GeForce 9800m GT
128GB SSD :D
backlit keyboard
$2049

fair change?  XD

Dell make awesome laptops, I've been through 3 so far and all of them were great - I've never had a desktop.

Dell does indeed make a good laptop.

Is that a dual core 2.4? You should really be trying to get a multi core processor.

My Inspiron runs a 2.6 GHz dual core and that's all I've ever needed for my mobile system.

I got a eee netbook. (eee pc xp 1000H)

lol.

Yes, it is a dual core 2.4GHz processor.
The bad dells were the old desktops :P
...and maybe the new desktops...

Why would you need a backlit keyboard?

That thing looks heavy...
And,
Why would you need a backlit keyboard?

But anyway, Dell laptops are very nice, but that price is pretty extreme...

i think dell and hp are the best laptops, mines hp im pretty satisfied with it :)
that laptop looks like its wide screen which is good, i cant stand small screens. but it does look like a pretty hefty thing, make sure you're not luggin it around with you everywhere lol

He said he needs a laptop for school, so I'm assuming that he means taking it to school and back home.
If he is, he should probably look at something a bit lighter.

yeah, i dont think all people take theirs back and forth, i dont. but if thats the plan then it'll be a bitch for him to do so. lol

Exactly. That's why I'm getting a laptop that's less than 4 pounds, because I'm gonna have to carry mine around to class every day.

I prefer HP over Dell, but Dell is still nice.

Dell knows how to keep your laptop cool, never had any overheating problems with any of my past Dell laptops or this one either. I put them on top of a cooling plate but I never even need to turn the thing on unless I'm playing something ridiculous.

i cant decide if i want a laptop or a desktop. because:

Laptop=portability

Desktop=more power(?) and easier to upgrade the hardware.

If I get 70's and above, I get the Alienware ALX X58
