Metallica, Slayer, Iron Maiden, Godsmack, they're all good bands. Maybe not to you but there are probably more fans than the opposition.

Also, Godsmack is alternative. Grunge if you will such as Alice In Chains (forget Nirvana, more like glam).

GnR is glam. RATM is more rap than metal since Tom Morello only plays with a foot pedal.

Music is such a diverse topic that "good music" to one person is "garbage" to another. It reminds me of that saying, "One mans trash is another mans treasure." Personally, I like Hardcore which is one step up from Metal. I still do like some Metal bands, but I just think that they are a little weak at times. Some of my personal favorites are:
August Burns Red
The Devil Wears Prada
UnderOath
Norma Jean
Destroy the Runner
The Chariot
Bullet for my Valentine
And a ton more...

Pretty much everything on that list is Hardcore except for BFMV, which is borderline hardcore.

I'm a big fan of Techno (Pretty much everything but most house and electro).

I also like classical music and '20s music (Such as Rapsody in Blue by George Gerswin).

So I'm sorry if I have different tastes than you.
