Tips? Most people have their own style of play and favorite ships, I like the one with 8 guns, loaded with dumb fire missiles, then i fly directly at things firing everything.

Or bomber loaded with an insane number of anti fighter missiles (they are meant for carrying anti capitol ship weapons but when they carry regular missiles they can carry and ass-load.).

Of course those are my choices for online play, not the campaign.

They are both kinda cheap tactics, many people do not approve of you sitting in space spewing missiles at them while they actually have to maneuver.
lol i would like to see that happen with you shooting a stuff-load of missles at people

There is a setting for double firing missiles, this is nice because hornets in the game split into four homing missiles and when double fired they make 8. This is nice because people being fired on suddenly have their anti missile systems light up and start show a bunch of missile warnings, they panic and start flying in circles. These missiles are fairly easy to avoid at range so even someone randomly flailing at the controls should dodge them but that is the beauty of this tactic. Because in the process of failing they tend to go full after burner and dump countermeasures.

You just keep firing and they'll run out of afterburner and countermeasures until they start hitting.

All the while you sit there, not even moving. The problem is that other people tend to go after you and you can be taken out pretty fast. So you have to put your back against a friendly capitol ship or something (most multiplayer games involve two capitol ships).

I used to play this like 4 years ago,Its quite a decent space sim but the costs disapoint me because its not a populated game.
Theres barely 20 people online at the same time.

how would you compare Freespace 2 with Freelancer?

Freelancer is balls.

I don't even have to compare them, Freelancer is just balls.

I either use the Myrmidon or the interceptor.

The only other game I've played in the same genre that is as good as Freespace 2 is Independence war 2. (look it up, it's great but not freeware).

Wing Commander is pretty kickass as well.

Eternal Silence is alright, but it's obviously inspired by FreeSpace.

The X-wing games are pretty good.

Chex, why do you think freelancer is balls?
its one of the most enjoyable space games there is.
I tried X3 and hated it  and freespace doesn't quite comape
so please enlighten me why you think freelancer sucks.

Because it's not even in first person. Flight sims that aren't in first person are hard to control and your ship gets in the way.

dude....
press ctrl+v

I just did. It was a spacebar hit.

Do people actually play FreeSpace 2 online?

if you do get freelancer, get the mod, The Next Generation..very good. would say something about playing online but it would break badspot's no piracy rule (server emulation)

(kinda hard not to break that rule since old games like freelancer dont have official masterserver things anymore)

Why doesnt the installer work?
or is it like OpenTTD which actually requires the game to work
