But 1942 is a bit more epic, considering you can have more than 24 people per-server...
My brother had some cool computer-geek colleagues back in the day that had themselves a pretty loving powerful server dedicated to hosting all sorts of junk and multiplayer games. They held 64 player matches on a regular basis, problem is most of them were during the day while I was at school, but sometimes they'd have night matches and those were amazing.
Teams were SSJ Linux Alpha and Kosmo Kramer's Krew (Don't ask), the most frequent maps we played on were Midway Island (I think it's called) purely for the boat nonsense and pretty much all the other maps that had bombers or lots of planes in them. It wasn't really competitive, mostly just everyone goofing around with the vehicles and trying to pull the craziest stuff all the time, although the Linux team would win quite frequently for some reason.
I tried picking up 1942 again a few years ago and I dunno, the magic was kind of lost. I tried playing with a few friends but to no avail. Maybe I'll try to get my chem colleagues into it.
