I actually used to play this a fair bit with my school friends back in the day. I got to the point of having quite a lot of villages. My basic starter strategy was:
- Get clay and lumber to 15, and iron to 10
- Build barracks ASAP
- Upgrade your warehouse until it has approximately 3000 capacity
- Build a statue and get a paladin! This is very important!
- Build around 200-300 spear-men and 100 or so axemen (After you've met the requirements and build a smithy)
- Build and upgrade your wall to level 8
- Upgrade your farm when needed
- Start farming the villages around you once new player protection has ended
- Meet the requirements of the stable, and build it
- Upgrade iron to the same level as your other resource points
Explanation:
You won't need much iron to build spear-men or axemen, so it's best not to waste resources upgrading it if you won't use all of it every time. You'll need plenty of warehouse space so you aren't hitting the cap overnight. A basic defence and attack force is needed to farm other players, and stop them farming you back - And to add to this, you have your wall which adds extra defence to your troops. When you get to the point of farming other villages, you'll be pulling in at least 200% of what you make from your resource points. Once you've got your stable, you'll need more iron for light cavalry and scouts. Build around 10 scouts and 100+ light cavalry (These will be your main attacking force in the future).
Important note:
Do not bother upgrading your hiding place. It is useless, and a waste of resources. Your key aim for starting out is to cut down any other players in your area that may cause you trouble in the future.
That's the basics (Before you get around to leveling up to a noble)
