Author Topic: Somebody knows my key  (Read 6271 times)

I wonder if someone finally found a program that rolls through random numbers and letters looking for keys? D:

IT'S THE END OF THE WORLD.
Ok, with this, I should explain how the key system works.

When you log on it tells the authentication server your key. Then when it recieves it, it sees if it is a real key. basically, it just sees if it fits the algorithm that badspot made. If it does not, it returns an error. Once it is done it does a check of every activated key. When a key is bought, it is bound to the next available ID. Basically, it says that <key> = <ID>. So as the authentication server checks if it is bound to an ID, it goes through every bound ID to see if it is a match. If not, it returns an error.

So there are 3 types of "keys"
Keys that are bound - 14,000 or so
unused keys - millions
fake keys. - even more

I have seen people who have seen people who had put in an unbound key, but it would not work. It is all a matter of if the key is bound to an ID or not.

-snip-

I knew that, I'm just saying it might find activated keys.

Tom

Apparently, though I have absolutely no idea how, somebody is using my key. I can't really provide pictures or anything for proof, but while hosting, "Randomguy" connected.
Your server would have ended.

I knew that, I'm just saying it might find activated keys.
Skylord did this in a simi smart way. He had a few people give him their keys ( Mr. Cookie, FaTDoG, etc.) and he put it in a script that used how the keys were set up as shown below.. He also asked others to give their key in the below form.

AA L#L-L###-L#LL-L##L

and so on. once he would get a key that gone into the authentication procsess, he would rewrite the script so it would fit the algorithm better. Eventually he could of gotten a keygen of his own. This is why Mr Cookie goes on a different key. The thing is, when I saw the results, he only got a working key every few days or so. Even in that, they were not bound to any IDs. Besides, badspot can just change the algorithm as he did with ID's 2 - 99.

Maybe, in a future patch, Badspot could create a new account system for us. Something that requires a key and once the key is entered into the account it is bound to that account forever. That way keys have passwords and cannot be shared.

Unfotunatly, you could still share the password.

What I think is to bound a password to that key once you activate it. So you need both.

Unfortunately, you could still share the password.
This would still be the case.

Ummm Key, Username and Password?

The only way this could've happened is really if you gave your key away to anyone. Much like to MtnDew's brother who is so 'careful' with it.

Or it could be spyware leaking your information or keystrokes.

There are millions of combinations that will work but only 14,000 or so will work.
Yup because that makes sense

There are programs who can get the keys.

Pirated things that take a key to activate generate random ones that work :o

Pirated BL, they key just happened to be Random's?

I don't know :(
