Author Topic: Server Channels  (Read 444 times)

After I notcied all the stupid servers such as "free love" "strip club server" and "shins bakugan" along with all the non port forwarded servers, I decided to suggest this.

A player could create a "server Channel" and pick which players are allowed to join the channel and see what servers are in it. If you host a server in your own server channel, only people that are allowed can join. Blocked people cannot. Allowed people can be upgraded to the rank of trustee which allows them to host in your server channel. There would be an additional tab in the server browser called channels where you can see all the channels you are allowed to join. This could be used for people that want to host DMs with only good battlers, servers for only their friends, servers for only mature people and so on.

Since the general list is on the Blockland master server, players without the Add-On enabling this would see the servers on the list and be confused as to why they cannot join many of them if it was adopted by lots of people.

This would have to be added to the mainstream Blockland to work, but it looks a little confusing. Host your server with a password if you don't want people in it.

If this WAS released with the main thing of Blockland, the servers you put in your own channel would not be viewable on the main list of servers. The server channels would be differant then passworded servers. These would be like public servers for people you pick. Lets just say I wanted to make a New Players Only server. I could host a Newbie channel and block all IDs from 9000 and below. Then in the channel, there could be servers run such as "Building tips", "Fighting practice" and such. Then there could be a "Experienced Fighters" channel where only the best fighters go. Or a "Reunion Channel" where only IDs that are really low go. Or a "Modders Channel" where the channel host selects people that are learning how to mod/ already know how to mod for disscusion on mods and mod testing.

If you start trying to host more than one server there will be huge lag in all of them unless you have a dedicated computer to them. Everyone will want "their own" channel instead of using one of the available ones to exclude everyone but their specific friends.

Idea - server tags. You can choose from server tags offered by the game (e.g. "Freebuild") or ones from Add-Ons ("TDM-Siege") to add to the server. Players can then filter the list of servers to include or exclude those ones.

I see what you mean by everyone will want their own. I am not talking about people hosting multiple servers but other people allowed into the channel to host servers also. I like the tag idea.

You'd just end up with the list spammed with channels, except now it's harder to navigate because you have to go through several menus and tabs to find out you don't want to join the useless servers.
