Well mittens because you asked...

i'd take a boat down to the Caribbean islands.

Alot less people and more away from the major areas.

Do you know how fast zombie infection spreads?

-You made a good point and true, most of us would either die before we got all our supplies or just listen to what our parents want. Luckily for me I live in a smaller area in Wisconsin so there wouldn't be a huge amount of outbreak in my area right away. For myself I would probably folow my father's instructions and it would probably go something like this:
Sharpen the various weapons around the house and barricade the lower floor, from there we would be destroying the stairs. With a months worth of food and water, melee weapons to hold off the ones climbing the broken stairs. A crank radio and petal powered generator, and bedding and entertainment. My mom would likely be watching after my eight year old sister trying to hide the fact that the world around us is going to hell. My dad and I would be discussing how to get out to the great lakes and use the watersystem to get to sea. After about a week most of the people will have tried to go for the 'defend the castle' approch or run awayto their death on the highway. Taking the back entrance to the super walmart I would likely be shot or injured. Assuming that there were still weapons we would stock up on what we could carry. From there we would drop off a cash of ammo and a spare gun. Then heading outside to get my dads friends to assemble a small rebel base. Then for the next few days preparing a convoy out to the great lakes. My guess on how the convoy would go: lead car is my dad's Honda pilot since it has the ramming bar in the front. The car behiend would be the RV with supplies and younger kids. Behiend that would be a car carrying a raft like boat. Behiend that would be our modified van to carry gas. Assuming that I live long enough for the convoy the amount of vehicles would diminish. The RV would be ditched after running low on supplies with kids in van and pilot. The pilot would carry the boat and such. From there we would travel along the river to the sea close to ports. Knowing many others would also go to sea we would unite with other ships and fish for food and use purifiers for water. Now all this is guessing that I lived which would be a slim chance with many variables. Too for the making it to the great lakes we would add on time by taking backeroutes and making our own roads stoping by little villages to raid for supplies and syphen fuel tanks of abandoned cars.

I'll meet up with you as I live in Michigan. Also, we should totally make a floating city. We could grow plants and stuff on it and eat them.

The island idea wouldn't be so bad in my opinion, from an island you don't have the risk of being swamped by a large wave or getting lost way out. If it was a good island you have a chance at a more secure shelter and being able to grow plants and food. As long as it wasn't a populated island you should be fine. The issue though would be that if it's not far out the submerged zombies might be able to walk up the shore. This would be your best bet I'd you had a medium to large group of survivors and good in the long run. It would be hard to start up the shelter and such and might need to go to multiple islands before finding the perfect one. I would rather just go for an oil rig since it has oil (durr) providing all I need to maintain the rig's various parts. Sure if something broke down I'd be screwed and raiders would be an issue. However if we had weapons we could even sell out fuel for weapons and goods.

Floating/Moving island with high banks. Also, if we stayed in the Great Lakes, by the time winter comes, the zombies would either be frozen or trapped under the ice.

The winter time would probably be a bad situation. Many people know their safe and come out of hiding, from there groups come back together and share food and everyone thinks it will all be fine. Then the food starts to run out and tempers flare, people break off the groups and starve or kill for remaining food. Many would go back to their safe haven and make best with what's left. So I think winter would be the best time to scavenge and loot. Best of all is the best time to travel to better places. Now here's a new plan I just thought of and is kind of skethy:
after taking a semi truck you put all the supplies inside, assuming you have a group of eight you have three driving shifts. You use the winter to head up past the border of Canada and move on to Tuktoyaktuk it's a small village in northern Canada. The unique part is to get there you must use the 'Ice roads' which is frozen over roads on the sea. The best part is it's up where zombies would freeze and a nice supply of fish. In the summer and all other seasons besides the winter the only way to this village is by boat. And the fact that it's out in the north means I doubt there will be Many boats going there.. Or even knowing the place exists. So you pretty much are safe in the summer when no one goes there. And in the winter the zombies are frozen over, as long as you dtay under 60mph the road will be fine and it takes around 22 hours to get there. With eight people each one drives with doubles for eight hours.

It's all good though but yeah, left 4 dead obsession there
Propane tanks are bad. They can sometimes blow up due to cold, or heat. Rescue chopper? What? Acme? Landmines?
Where would you keep this stuff safe? Zombies don't come in hordes.
Waves, anything BUT hordes. Zombies don't even walk that loving fast unless they got some kind of new gene/worm/infection in their body before zombification or some stuff like that.

That is basically what i would be doing, but instead of the Great Lakes it would be Horsetooth Resivour(Woah spelling?),  and actually, how you would be acting depends on the types of zombies, if they are runner zombies like in 28 Days/Weeks later, then you would be fending off the ones climbing the stairs, and you would be a lot more screwed, but if they are the traditional Resident Evil zombies, then you could just break the stairs, no need to fend them off they can't climb, and i probably would have a few months food and water, but i would be making supply trips with my pa, we would more then likely bunk in my room seeing as it is the master bedroom, 30 feet from the stairs going up to the second level, it has a 6FtX4Ft window, with a very sturdy mantel, easy to climb, we would bring my dads ladder up which easily extends, and whenever need be, here is how my supply runs would go, i would take the ladder and extend it to its fullest(about 30 feet) then i would use it as a bridge, crawling of course, over to the roof of my shed, which is around 12 feet tall, and about 15 feet away from my window, after i was on that, i would jump straight over the fence into my neighbors yard, their fence is around 3 feet from the shed, they have a full 10 foot barrier around their yard, it is reinforced wood with reinforced steel reinforcing it lol, they would probably have the safest, before the zombies spread to far, i would probably block off their back door so that zombies cannot reach the back yard, then after getting to their back yard, i would go through their gate, make sure no zombies were there, then i would run to a local supermarket, there are around 15 near my house, King Soopers, K-Mart, a walmart and a super walmart, Walgreens, Big5, etc etc, then after all the supplies from those were depleeted i would start hitting up smaller stores, things like the hidden 7-11 near my house, only about 6 people know about it because it is in a dead end alley, and it doesnt have any signs or anything, one of the first things i would do is probably contact my friend Chris and his family, his father is a Big game hunter, so he has around 25 shotguns and rifles and assault rifles and handguns in his house, discluding the ammo, and since he is a hunter, he has enough food to last for quite a while, we would probably bring my dads wood upstairs for a fire and to board stuff up, he is a contractor so he has around 500 logs of 4"x4"x12' wood planks in the back yard, and a couple axes, we have around 30k nails and screws around the house, so thats no trouble, we have enough weapons if Chris' family is not an option, my dad has a .22 cal, a 12 guage, and a few handguns, and i myself have a nice long dagger, around 1', and plenty other weapons, plus a couple ranged, my dads 7pump Metal bb gun would be good, considering 1 pump breaks skin from 50 feet, 7 pumps probably goes through a head, and we have around 60k bbs.
