Alright I guess I'm gonna give this kid one shot. His guitar is a piece of stuff though, it cost him 80 bucks brand new, buzzes all over the place
can he even play smoke on the water?

What is this kids first name?  I know a kid just like this.

Back on topic - I'd just teach him the basics.

Dont listen to the guys to let him give up! I leared the piano in 6th and I had to stop but know i can play cannon, furelise and hall of mountain king! Note: the teacher let us work at our own pace!

the ironic thing is, he does have guitar hero 3, but he plays with a controller because he thinks the guitar is too hard, go figure.
