Author Topic: Flat-Shading Not Working. (MS3D)  (Read 1272 times)

I have started another weapon, but I'm having flat shading problems. I use a basic method. Select all with the face selection tool, unweld vertex, uncheck auto smooth, weld vertexes together, then do tile texture mapper to planar, then export. But, when I do, some of the model turns black, but some parts of the model (Which all have the same texture) turn gray instead. The shading in-game looks terrible. It has too much shadow, and some of the curves are hardly visible.
How do I fix this?

Ctrl a and then ctrl m, flatshade if needed.

Still has bad shading.

Did you mirror any parts of the model?

Also you need to do the Tile Texture mapping thing right before Welding the vertices back together

Assign a smoothing group.

Tried that.
Assign a smoothing group.
The whole model is in one group.

Select everything again and then reassign it to a new one then go back to 1. After that Ctrl A then Ctrl W.

Didn't seem to do the trick.

Reinstall MS3D, its brockedkekd.

Actually, it has been mirrored. The weird thing is that one one thing, the shading is dark on one side, and bright on the other. On another piece, it's on the opposite sides. But the other things are fine.

use the selection editor tool and navigate until you're inside the model.  select all the faces you see, basically, all the "black faces", but they wont be black in that view.  once all the faces are selected, go to the face menu and click the option that says "turn edge."  This should fix the black face problem.

^ Good point, in the 3D view right click and Turn offf Show Back Faces, it'll show you the true form of the model.

There are no backfaces. It looks perfectly fine in the model view. It looks fine in flat shading view, smooth shading, and textured. They all look like it will turn out exactly how I want it.

I had this problem just yesterday, I fixed it by turning on "Auto smooth" in the groups tab.

All it did was make it smooth.
