Author Topic: Should I spend the next 2 years in extremely intense guitar practice?  (Read 1429 times)

Alright, I want to get signed by collage I've got the talent, but I usually only practice an hour a day, so I'm wondering if I should just completely forget everything I play for about 5 hours a day minimum on weekdays (that's the most I can afford with school and work during the summer) and about 10-14 hours on weekends (before you think I'm crazy yes I have practiced marathon sessions like this before, I am able to do it) for the next 2 years in hopes of getting signed? What do you guys think I should do?

play bass

I have tried the bass, I have no desire to play it.

Play the Bagpipe :D

I have no desire for kilts

Play a flute. I call piano.

Are you really expecting a forums of teenagers and kids to help you with a decision like this.

try again

I wasn't kidding. Too much youth is looking forward to guitars. But I suppose it's better than repeating a rhyme with your friends making handicapped sounds in the background and calling it a song.

I hate how people ball up "guitarists" into one big group, we're not all the same. There's people who suck, people who are good, people who play old music, people who play new music. Yeah sure there's a ton of kids who buy a guitar and suck and give up, but I hate being compared with every other player out there.

at least youre not that friend

but, i wouldnt mind hearing how you play, just to see whether you're really as good as you say you are

I'll play accordion!

On-Topic: Don't give up all your free time! You should just practice more than you normally do (2-3 hours) and have a marathon practice once a month. It would be silly to put all your time into something you don't know will go well.

My choir director told me that in a college you could get a degree in whistling.

well occasionally I'll direct record practices or songs I'm writing so I can comb over them when I can't practice, if I get off my lazy butt I might post one.

I gave up guitar. Took me 5 years to realize how much I didn't enjoy it. Now I put all of my focus into playing drums which I'm WAY better at (not that I'm bad at guitar. I'm descent). I might start playing bass. I like the simplicity of only hitting one note.

5 hours is a little overkill.
