Author Topic: Clientside F8/spy script  (Read 1201 times)

No, I am not requesting this, I am requesting that there be a script that renders these so-called "F8/spy scripts" unusable. I have had at least 5 people join my server and say that they have it, and use it, and I'm sure many others have joined and used it, but just not told me about it. This concerns me because #1, the "Drop Camera at Player" and "Drop Player at Camera" functions are supposed to be admin-only, and #2, if they are supposed to be admin-only, then there should be a script to counteract this because non-admins should not be able to do this. Is this possible, and did I arise the issue soon enough to have a counteracting script in v13 of Blockland?

I don't think its actually using the admin only commands.  It sounds like its hacky though.  Makes me think of camera events...

The "Drop Player at Camera" function is not usable via these scripts, only the camera features.

In any case, your server is sending the data of everything to players. You cannot stop them changing their viewpoint to anywhere they like.

Unless you try that method Blockland: Source wanted for UBER AWESOME PHYSICS and basically send a cinematic image to people (horribly laggy) instead of brick positions/data.

I see. But it would be nice to have some sort of script that doesn't send the /spy function (or the like) to non-admins.

It doesn't. The one I know of uses completely client-sided commands to simulate the same thing that /spy does, with no server communication.

Ugh... Whatever, I'm just suggesting that there be a script that disallows non-admins to use such scripts/commands/etc. on server's that they don't own/are not admins on.

If you only want people to see your build from certain angles, use the Gallery.

If you only want people to see your build from certain angles, use the Gallery.

Pardon my potential incompetence, but, what? I mean, I know what the Gallery is, but where did seeing one of my builds from certain angles come into this?

In order to use the server, the information of positions, colours and rotations of everything (people, bricks, etc.) in your server is transmitted to people. You really cannot detect or stop them doing whatever they like with this data - whether it be viewing it from any angle, saving it to their hard drive as their own, etc. If you don't want people doing it, don't host a public server.

Ah, I see what you're saying. Yeah, I realize that people might have saved my builds sometimes, but I really don't care, it's not worth going to the futile trouble of trying to stop them. I don't even bother to ban them (unless it's something like my huge TDM Arena that a friend and I built). And usually, if I'm working on a special/complicated/large build, like you said, I play in a Single Player game, or even a LAN game.

good idea :D

Hey cucumber i dfidn't know that you were in canada...

well now ya know, but I'm only there for 3 weeks-now down to only two days 'till I leave Canada. I can't play blockland and with all these new add ons...I wanna go home!

The ones I had created don't communicate with the server whatsoever, and therefore cannot be blocked by a server-sided script; they just run off the data stored in ServerConnection. This means a player cannot use the /spy command on any players that are not rendered. (You don't have to physically see them, but they can't be out of draw distance.) I'm not sure what the released (?) ones run off of, but it's most likely similar.

I bet Zoneark game em out. Either that or Only1.
