Author Topic: Uplink- Trust is a weakness  (Read 3012 times)

Fairly old game I got addicted to recently. It's very original. You play as a hacker hired by a secret company and do odd (usually illegal) jobs for major cooperations. Below is Introversion's description:

"You play an Uplink Agent who makes a living by performing jobs for major corporations. Your tasks involve hacking into rival computer systems, stealing research data, sabotaging other companies, laundering money, erasing evidence, or framing innocent people.

"You use the money you earn to upgrade your computer systems, and to buy new software and tools. As your experience level increases you find more dangerous and profitable missions become available. You can speculate on a fully working stock market (and even influence its outcome). You can modify peoples academic or criminal records. You can divert money from bank transfers into your own accounts. You can even take part in the construction of the most deadly computer virus ever designed."

I'm thinking of buying it, but I'm kinda poor, so I duno...
You can do quite a bit on the free version anyway.

hacker elite is the english version of the game.
It was trust is a weakness in the uk

I tried the demo, like it a lot.
Might buy it. :D

Edit: forgot to mention in the demo I had quite a large network of links which gave me enough time break into Uplinks system before their trace got me. Lol, what a backstab.

/Divide by 0

:D

I started the A.R.C. storyline. If I remember correctly, I'm supposed to try to hack into their central mainframe, fail, and get an email from them.
However, I hacked in successfully, Copied and deleted a few of their programs, cleared the logs, and covered my tracks without a problem. I haven't got an email yet so... should I purposely hack in and fail?
Edit: Never mind, they found me somehow.

Got the full thing.
Pretty fun. I hate passive traces though. I forgot to clear the log of one of the IPs I bounced through to break the chain and ended up getting caught. :(

I just stole 1,000,000 credits from someone at the Palmtop bank. Now what? :D

The trick is to log in / start the call bouncing at interNIC. It doesn't track you if you crack the password, and it's a popular site. I also cover my tracks in the Uplink test machine, since it doesn't passive track you if you hack in.

Bull.
Highest IP possible is 255.255.255.255

Highest value for any field is 255.

It's a game.
Dated in the mysterious future year 2010. OooOOoOOoh.

They probably did not want to use any real IPs in the game, easy to understand.

Easy money.

Download a random Computer(modlink)

find where the money numbers are(somewhere in the text)
Change it to any number with a -(-12312)
go in game, buy it, and repeat for easy money

They could use IPv6 addresses. AEF0:0ABB:2CCF:D45A:CB87:90AB:ACDD:0CB2

I'm going to download it, seems like a fun game.
