Author Topic: Making a game engine?  (Read 2029 times)

Are you still working on that Blockplanet game? Jesus, it's been a year since you posted about it on the ROBLOX forum. I thought you would've given up by now...
My brother is still spamming about it but I only work on it once and a while.

:O Heed's working on a game?

A game engine can be done quick and easy. It's not very hard if you know C++. But that's if you want to make a 2d game with basic physics.  3d games are a different story. I'd suggest looking for an engine (instead of making one yourself) as they can do just about anything you want.

I always wanted to make one somewhat like a lego one where you can build vehicles and drive them and blow them up and watch bricks and such scatter everywhere.
This is the most original idea I've ever seen holy stuff.
My bad, I has assumed that you meant just flat out building with legos again.

I know, hehehe.... I should try Gmod some time.

I once had a quite unique concept of a RPG/FPS done with lego style. Build ships and add guns and such then sail out into a pool or something and sink other players, gather their bricks and use them to build houses, upgrade your ship/plane/boat and stuff. Alot of people thought it was a great idea but I doubt I could pull it off alone.

It would certainly be interesting, I'll give you that. But with anything interesting, it will most likely be difficult to pull off.

It costs as much money as you spend on it.  It depends on what you buy for coding the game engine.  Making a game engine is a hard task, and they are often made with multiple experienced coders.  I would suggest if you were to ever think of making one, you gain a lot of experience with coding and familiarize yourself with how everything your game engine uses works.  It really depends, but if anything, it is much easier to buy a game engine.
And then edit it.

But then again, specialized game engines can be used to cater towards your needs.

I should look into making one. It doesn't hurt to look things up, except research torrents?

The concept I got flamed of a year ago. It surely would be hard to pull off but it would be quite epic. Join guilds, make epic flying fortresses, blow the crap out of people's boats and gather up the pieces, tame beasts, conquer houses. I am surprised no one made this yet.

What programming Language would you use?

Not really what I was talking about. This would be more large scale and full of physics. With boat combat, blowing the crap out of someone's ship, then salvaging the parts. Making flying bases, making cars/tanks and such. Would require a very powerful engine to support it.
