Blockland in Torque 3D. Hmm...

Badspot, if abunch of Blockland users sent you money for Torque 3D would you make a Blockland 2?  :cookieMonster:

I'm not saying that this is something that should be added in the next version but it would be better if the options to download textures, models, and music was enabled if a user chooses a high Internet speed when they first download and start the game.

Here is what I'd like to see in an update that I feel would benefit the community:

  • Maximum amount of bricks on a server increased
    The current limit cap is at 128 thousand bricks. This may not seem much, but for a continuiously running server this cap is most annoying. The issue is raised that users will not be able to handle more than the current cap of Bricks, though user's should be able to determine when to stop building due to latency issues and not a cap.


I renember badspot talking about the cap.
It is actully changeable but the issues that come with it are the problem.
If I renember correctly, Blockland transfers 17bits per second, Making the brick cap 2^17 whitch is 121k.
Badspot said that he could raise it to 19bits Whitch will make the brick cap 2^19 whitch is 524k
but that would make an extra 2 bits every second whitch would make a sinigficent rise in the lag.

Now i'm not sure if thats what he said exactly, Please correct me if i'm wrong.

They could then disable those features. What I'm trying to get at is right now there is a massive influx of new users who do not know about the check boxes to enable downloading of models and whatnot. These users may be able to download these features at a fast speed but don't know it. Right now new users probably have many weapons and whatnot that are downloaded from a server only to have them in the shape of a sword or something. It really tarnishes the look of the game.

You have completely lost perspective here.  With weapon, texture and sound downloads on it can take hours to join your first server.  Wrap your head around that - you pay $20 for a game, get excited to play it, then you're "loading" for 2 goddamn hours. 

The speed of your internet connection is irrelevant because the transfer is via UDP packets that are being size and rate limited and squeezed through some other schmuck's puny residential upload pipe.  To make downloads really work properly, they would have to be mirrored on a real web server.  It's do-able for sure, but not for v13.

Since baddys talking alot here, AAaaages ago (v7 or 8) i said about day/night transitions and you said you wanted to do it but wasn't possible because of the network code

I do want to put the day/night transitions in.  They would work really well because all of the brick lighting is dynamic.  However, to put them in I would have to break network compatibility and I want to avoid that for now.

late on this topic but it was discussed here.

sure (properly) raising a brick limit would be awesome. but the dozen blockland users that ever come near 128k will have to do. its just not that big a deal.

the only people that really get close anyways are people with those stupid rpg games that have them towns. for as long as it takes to limit out anyways, just consider it a game, and start a new round.

Okay I'm officially done posting in this topic and looking like a dumbass. >_>

It would be nice if there would be more animation sequences available for custom player types. Such as "Side Right" and "Side Left", and animations for when the player rotates.

Or just have the game be able to handle extra sequences without crashing.

Is it possible to add an option of download : 'Download weapons's icons images' ?

You can't do that.  That would be like  my mom gets pulled over for speeding, and the officer asks her for her drivers liscense (ID for driving) , the officer wouldn't know who it is.

Like in blockland, without IDs, no one would really know who is who.


Anyways, making it by defualt not showing Ids ebough?
