Coldplay bugs me. It seems that they are trying to become the next U2. While if it was just happening naturally I wouldn't mind but it's like they are doing it purposefully with almost every song they release can be identified as a different take of a coldplay song. Etc etc.
What bugs me most about this though is I can't actually dislike them because they keep making cool stuff that makes me have to like them again such as: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fXSovfzyx28&feature=fvw
xD
Ah wells.
*dances in his seat*
In the latest interview they did with 60 Minutes, the lead singer said that they were only so popular at the time because all of the U2 fans were flocking to them while U2 was on hiatus. He called it "substitute teaching", and he himself is a big believer in giving the audience what they want. That basically explains it all for you.
I do agree that some of their songs sound the same, but most of them don't. The only ones that are really annoying is "Clocks" and "Speed of Sound". Both of them are the same freakin' song, people. If they had only chosen to make one version, I would've liked it for what it was, a brilliant piece of music. But because they have two, I can't stand to listen to either of them.
And besides, U2 stopped being good around 1980. If I was them, I wouldn't waste my time trying to copy the new U2. Sure, Beautiful Day was a good song, but come on, they haven't had a good album since The Unforgettable Fire.
