You had to have been an active contributor to the topic. Although, I don't think Ephialtes is accepting more Alpha testers, though you can wait for the beta to open.

Ephialtes chose 20 users (himself included, I believe) to participate in the Alpha testing.
No one outside these 20 will be alpha testing, however 80 more users (was it 80?) will be able to participate in the beta testing when it is released by signing up for it.

Yeah, I don't think Ephi is going to kick out the alpha testers for the sake of having a completely random set of people. I'd also imagine if it was decided someone would be a helpful tester who could provide useful feedback, they'd simply be given the alpha, since that was how the other testers were picked.
