Tom

Google has a few different IPS because they have so many web servers in different locations.

Plus I'm positive they have tight security.

The NCIC (A governmant branch thingy) changes their host IP every 30 minutes (or whenever I randomly ping them) to prevent people from doing stuff to their databases.

A url is basically a human readable IP address. When you go to a website, the url gets sent to something called a DNS (domain name system) server which translates it into a number that computers can understand and handle.

Want to see it for yourself? Go to http://75.125.196.138/img/betaCity2.html, it should take you to a video of Blockland on Badspot's website. The same one you would find at http://badspot.us/img/betaCity2.html.

The IP address points to a machine. / points to the root folder of the machine (or the bit that's accessible by the internet anyway). img points to a folder called img. betaCity2.html points to a single web page contained inside of this folder. Badspot.us is just what the machine's called so you don't have to type out a bunch of numbers to get to it. It's very simple.

IP addresses are not secret. People can't just take your IP address and steal all your documents and give you viruses or whatever you're worried about. You do not need to hide your IP. Mine is 24.161.98.48. Someone's IP address is our business because without it we couldn't find their website.
