Just a guess, but I'm pretty sure its simply people feeling sad about a death, and wishing they were back. Its like they say, "You only hear what you want to." It applies here, in the sense that they WANT them back, so they feel like they are back.

Aliens do exist, but they are millions of light years away. Also, the chances that they are advanced and evil are very, very unlikely. They're all just single cell organisms.

That's a good point, but you can still feel someone there that you don't know at all. Of course, another part of the argument states that the only reason you can sense a spirit around you is because someone told you about it. So I think it's just best to stick with what you think is true, but stay open-minded to the other opinions. No-one knows what's true about this kinda stuff, so just go with what you want to.

If by ghosts you mean dead people that still have emotions and remain on earth, i'm not sure. it COULD depend on your religion, for example, christianty suggests that dead people's spirits go to heaven. 2nd edit: damnit joeboy caught me again :c
