Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress  (Read 25048 times)

- You don't need to irigate Sand or Soil, you silly goose :P You can just build farm plots on them from the get-go. You need to pass water over Rock floors and make them "muddy" to build farm plots on those though, and it's a 1 time thing for those. - I was just messing with channels there :o

- Doors! - Done
- *** Trade depot!! *** - When ever I make one noone comes to build it :/
- Dining room! - Done.
- Bedrooms! - Done.
- Also wood is precious, try to save it for things you won't be able to make out of stone like Beds and Barrels. -Alright, I'll keep that in mind.
- Try to move everything inside (including the refuse pile), you'll want to keep your dwarves out of the rain. - But the refuse makes that uh... Miasma stuff.

OH stuff, Oh stuff, Did I just loving flood my base? D: I'm afraid to unpause it! :C

That's part of the fun!

Losing this base that ive been working on for hours is most definitely not fun.

So I was playing Dwarf Fortress, and my dwarfs began randomly bleeding on their way to fetch water, and soon succumbing to their injuries. I tried looking for causes for their death, but I couldn't find any of the obvious culprits. No carp, no goblins, no nothing. I even sent out a small military party to patrol the area from my fortress to the river, and I came up with nothing. After a while, all my dwarfs started to die from dehydration.

An attempt to reclaim the fortress resulted in all of the new immigrants having tantrums for unexplained reasons, and then soon dying as a result.

Does anyone know what the cause of this may be?

Hm. When ever I mine something, I end up with a stuff load of rock. What can I do to get rid of it OTHER that putting it in a stock pile, because it fills up too fast :/

Why will my dwarfs not make my craftsdwarf's workshop?
solved it a long time ago :o

Press i, designate a single square near you workshops a a dump (g), then either go k-d to dump a single item or d-b-d to get a box select for things to dump. Then, every so often, go to the dump and do what he said down underneath me

Then, every so often, go to the dump and unforbid items on it (k-f-+-f-+-f...).
You don't need to do that (it takes forever when you dump a stuffload there).

Just go d>b>c and hit enter twice on your dump, that will claim everything on it.

I mayor went in a mood and needed stuff I wasn't really able to get/ he was too dumb to get it or something/I didn't have enough and went insane. Which is good, because now I don't have any meddling nobles.

Door off the refuse pile

You need to assign the building designer labour for someone to build the trade depot (v or u to the person you want, p-l-use - to get to architect)
Here is my fort, Autumnverse. There is tons of map not included in this picture, mostly grassland with trees etc. BIG PICTURES

Door off the refuse pile

Oops forgot to mention that. Yeah for indoor refuse piles you need a Double-door, just one door after another. This keeps miasma out of the rest of your fort 100% guaranteed.

You need to keep Bones and Shells*** handy in case of strange moods. You also want bones in general since they make good practice ammo out of essentially nothing. Skulls ware worthless though, unless you want to train a bonescrafter or something.

Jesus, do you have lava? clean everything up with nice hot lava!

Or cheat and designate everything to be dumped on a single "dump" tile somewhere. That's how I clear rocks anyways but I doubt you're supposed to be able to have 1000+ boulders and things on a single tile so vOv. Whenever I need something again I designate all the items on that tile as non-dump (the tile remains a dump however).

Yeah I know "fun" is losing. I found that out exploring the wiki.
Oh, And thanks for the tip for rocks. So useful.
oh and i already took care of the refuse thing, I figured out miasma cant go diagonal so i just made a diagonal entrance to it
solved the trade depot when i started my next game. I finally figured out how to assign labor, i could never find that out.
God damn I love the wiki <3

GAAAAAH, Holy stuff! When did I get 6 cats?!
