Author Topic: Dwarf Fortress  (Read 25084 times)

I worked my ass off during the weekend so now I have a little bit more free time, I'd be willing to put a few hours of gameplay required in a year for a succession game.

Simple rules:

0)  Post in the thread indicating you've claimed the succession game once it becomes available. First come first serve!, NO lists this time!!
1)  5 days each, tops, to play the fort for a single dwarf year after they claimed the succession game. Only people who haven't played the succession yet can pick it up.
2)  post about what's going on/what happened. Update us maybe once every 2 seasons or a single big update. Pictures are nice.
3)  no cheating (game modding, making map features visible when picking a fortress spot, etc. Using site finder to pick a good site is OK)

If you fail to meet any of these, your progress is revoked and we get someone else to pick up the older save. This applies to rule 2 as well. Don't pitch in unless you're willing to write a few blocks of text describing what's happening.

If no one new picks up the succession after a day or so, we'll let folk who've already run a year pick it up again if they want to.

That's it, happy dwarfing!

On a side note, I think there was some issues with getting save files to work between the 40d1# versions and the regular un-optimized 40d version of DF. Honestly 40d16 is fairly solid so I doubt anybody would have problems switching from 40d to 40d16 (other then re-implementing their tilesets and yadayada).

i'll join in the succession game

i'm not that great on following others tempo, so you might end up with like 60 holes in the fortress and a new goblin base somewhere
Oh but that would be so interesting.

If I can learn a bunch of basics, I'll play.
I already know some stuff since reading Boatmurdered.

Sure, I'll play
the only thing im not good at is trading :X

craftsdwarf, make stone mugs and crafts

Hurr. But I end up not having enough things to trade to actually get what I need. And most of the time i dont even know what i need.

Wood = Barrels = Barrels of booze > Food > Armor (from dwarven caravans only, they can't wear Large/Narrow/Tiny szed stuff) = Stuff that moody dwarves might request (bins of Silk cloth AND plant cloth, rough jewels, cut jewels, metal bars, etc.) > anything else that strikes your fancy.

If you want to train your crafters, making cheap crafts out of non-economic stones or abundant material is the way to go. But for trading, you probably want to make stuff that's actually valuable enough to be worth the wooden bin they're transported in.

Not counting the sweet pod trick, precious metal crafts like Aluminum/Platinum/Gold and even Iron stuff is what sells for bucketloads. If you don't have anything on-hand to get a forge running, you can also make stonecrafts out of metal ores. Not as valuable but still excessively nice. You can do that by designating a stockpile near a workshop and only allowing the ores you dug up to be stockpiled there, dwarves working in the workshop will then pick them out IF you allowed those ores to be used via the Economic Stones tab in you fortress status window (Z).

Okay, so e can start a succesion game soon and decide on order when we start. It will run on 40d16.
I assume you're in Muffinmix, I just out the ? because I'm not 100% sure. I can start the match if you want - but someone with more experience might be better in order to find a reasonable starting spot with cool features like magma.
e: wow, a dwarf just put an image of the other artifact on this artifact.

I'll be able to get one going either tommorrow or wednesday. If you don't hear from me until then, assume I got buried into a new load of work and have someone else start it.

Also no pre-determined order/lists please. That's what ultimately stalled the other succession forts, everyone was waiting after everyone and ultimately the forts never got past the 5th year or something. Let's make it a First Come First Serve basis this time.

Yeah I will join in.

I started a match in a bowl sort of area. When i hit the time of seiges i tried to flood the bowl with water but ended up flooding my fortress which killed 90% of my dwarves. The other 10% forgeted off outside and got mauled by the goblins.

I'll sign up for the succession.

A glassmaker got in a mood, but I have no sand so I built a glass furnace and locked him in there.
