Alright, srs time now. Hussie introduced the trolls to add a few new characters. He tried to get as much variety on them as possible. He created literal character-types. The trolls were also somewhat filler to keep the story moving in the background. Hussie works with different perspectives and keeps things running together. Then, during a final boss, he smashes them all together in one glorious orgy of death and amazing. Honestly, if you read all the way through the troll act and didn't like a single bit, Homestuck isn't for you.

except i liked homestuck until the trolls forgeted it all up. plus, if you make filler characters into a major plot point, you are a bad writer

them being dead doesn't make up for them being a major plot point. and the people who came cause of trolls are going to enjoy things along lines of trolls, so hussie puts things along lines of trolls in for cash money

It's not like all of them were important characters. A story needs support characters. I'd say most of the dead trolls weren't important, except for Vriska.

I think the use of an alien species playing through the game was a good way to handle the main revelation of Homestuck - that the game's purpose is to create a universe, along with a secondary plot twist - that these trolls we've been following created the kids' universe. I found it much more interesting than simply coming out and telling us "Hey, you guys are supposed to create a universe."
