It makes the game a little easier at that point but you lose out on getting two more powerful upgrades later on.

No not really. It only helps out near the start, but the game is easy enough to skip it. You'll be getting the blade shortly and it 1-hits almost anything till you can get the Spur.

I found it because of the suspiciously spaced blocks were allowing me to go up.

I'm at the beginning of the final cave, normal ending, curly died because I took PROFESSER loving BOOSTER'S 0.8 BOOSTER insead of being patient and waiting for V2.
God damn it I have to replay this game and get the best ending by killing Ballos.
No tow rope was there :(
