My future $1000 upgrade is a Core i7 2.66 GHz, 12 GB RAM and a GTX 260 (or maybe two)My brothers specs are exactly the same but 6GB RAM.
I'm confused...assuming your machine is mainly for gaming, why'd would you spend so little on a GPU upgrade and go for a useless amount of memory? If you're getting a Core i7 then stick with 6GB of memory and pick up a nice 5850 or 5870. Don't buy 2 lesser cards when you could easily buy one much greater card. Also, take a look at the AMD Phenom 2's...they are quite good and have a better price/performance ratio than the Core i7 series.
Alright, maybe down to 6GB RAM but I'm not really sticking with ATI cards :\GTX 275 maybe?
I'd think higher. The 285 or 295. Still, you're hurting yourself by excluding the ATI brand. They are really controlling the market right now by offering more powerful cards, with ever-improving drivers, at much lower prices than Nvidia.
You do NOT need 8 gb of ramedit: Lol you're using vista
No, because my GTX280s > your single 295.
What's so lol? Excuse me if I don't fork out $200 to upgrade from a great operating system to one that's slightly better.
Troy you're a friend, 8gb ram is useful if you like having 10000000000 different windows open at once like Rex.
forget windows seven and it's little changes. I said lol because Vista requires more RAMEver seen the X button in the top right?
watAre you suggesting everyone use XP until 2010? Also I keep windows open for various reasons. I don't have to close them, so I don't. I have eight gigabytes of RAM and I don't think you need to be so butthurt about it.
