So today my dad and I were working on my truck ('84 Nissan Datsun King Cab). We were putting gas in the tank so we put the ignition to "On" but with the engine not started to let the fuel pump run. We smelled gas under the hood after a while so we looked inside and the carburetor was letting gas just go into the engine. This caused one of the cylinders to fill up with gas on a downstroke, causing the entire engine to lock due to the hydraulic pressure. We either could let it seep out overnight or take out the spark plugs and let it out. (My truck has 4 cylinders but 8 spark plugs, 2 per cylinder, one on each side of the cylinder). My dad, not thinking very much, took out the spark plugs on one side and told me to run the starter for a few seconds. I couldn't see because of the hood being up, but as soon as I ran the starter a huge mist of gas shot out of the vacant spark plug holes, which the 4 remaining spark plugs gladly ignited. Basically, the entire rear driver's side of the engine compartment is in flames. I was leaning in through the open window to turn the keys and happened to see the glowing orange inferno out of the corner of my eye. I frantically removed the keys and GTFO as fast as I could, narrowly avoiding catching myself on fire. Luckily, my dad had thought enough to have the hose in his hand, already spraying water. Quite fun :D Luckily, there was no damage to the car besides a little bit of smoke residue on the windshield. But that can just be washed off.
TL;DR - Car squirted fire in engine compartment due to my Dad's and my own dumbness. Was very lol.
