What do you think?

Lower ID = Better builder
It makes no difference

Author Topic: Lower ID = Better Builder?  (Read 6079 times)

I have just had a little friendly argument with Sir Dooble, and we both agreed it would be an interesting idea to make this
topic and see what you lot think.

I say that there is a correlation between lower ID's and building skill, that
Lower ID = Longer time on Blockland = More experience = Greater skill.
EDIT: I am in no way saying that higher ID's cannot be good builders

Dooble says that this is rubbish, and that it doesn't matter how long you've been playing, skill is skill.

Well, tell us your thoughts, your worries, and how you think this is a pointless topic.

Personally I think this topic belongs here, but if a mod should see fit for it to be moved to drama I have
no objection

I'm kind of in a gray zone on this one.

I remember when Sniff joined blockland and immediately built a loving aircraft carrier and instantly got into MotE.

skill is skill >:0

No. That does NOT Mean that. i had a demonstration of a 500 bl_id's building skills, it was the same as mine. im a 16K

Tom

You can't say that a lower ID is ALWAYS a better builder. Lower IDS are more experienced and usually know what there doing, but it doesn't make them more creative.

I've seen some high BL_IDs with good ideas, just poorly executed.

I would just like to make it very clear that I do not beleve this rule applies to everybody.

I simply think that most people with lower ID's are better builders than most people with higher ID's.

I obviously didn't make my views that clear.

For that I apologise

I'm kind of in a gray zone on this one.
Aye, same.

Skill is skill, no matter where you get it. People with lower BL_IDs do seem to be able to build better, and it could be that it is because they have been here longer, but there are prime examples that people with high BL_IDs also posses skill in that area. It does not mean those are alternate keys, it just means they built things with Lego's or they are just really talented.

BL_ID is just a number that has purposes in game, but mainly shows that the person has bought the game before you. That does not mean, however, that said low IDs play more than you.

I can't build for stuff, but I love making mods and scripts, does that count?

Lower ID means they bought the game earlier. Buying the game earlier means potential to have played more. Potential to have played more means more chances to learn to build well. Doesn't mean they can't be good off the bat though.

EDIT:

Similarly, Game: I've played for a few days over a year now: I'm better than quite a few scripters that started before me, but others like Ephialtes and Trader have had more experience.

The main question is, what do you think has more of an impact on building,

Raw skill, or time and experience?

Right, so, pretty much Liquid mentions how he believes that the Lower ID's are better builders than the Higher ID's. Now, I'm not going to disagree with the fact that, there are some very good high ID Builders. However, from the way that I read Liquids words, it would seem that he's saying that almost all Low ID's are better than Higher ID's.

I can see where this comes from, with the concept of "Longer Playing=More Practice=More Experience=Better Builds" But even so, I have personally met high ID's who are equivalent or better than ID's lower than themselves, lower than myself, and even lower than Liquid, himself.

Now, Liquid also mentions that there is a strong correlation of good builders with low ID's compated to higher ID's. I personally find that (Removing the newbs, who don't yet know how to play the game completely/to their best ability) But I say, that there is an equal number of players who are good builders, and high ID's as their are Low ID's. I also stated that;
Quote from:  Sir Dooble; Skype Chat
If you were to get a list of every BL_ID active, and get one of their best builds, and get a non-biased judge, to judge every single one, based on certain criteria, I could assure you, any Graph created would have slight correlation at the lower ID's, but it would be spread fast there. It would be equal so, in every single ID Range. The only time it wouldn't be, is when it's a new person, who doesn't know how to play the game.
And, I believe that to be true.

If there's anything I've said in there, that sounds controversial, or questionable, then please, feel free to correct me on it. Just, don't go Ape-stuff on me, because I wrote something in a slightly bad context.

Time and experience, but BL_IDs do not show that. People can get that from things outside of Blockland, such as Lego's.

Also, "raw skill" is also known as talent.

That is an interesting factor that I did not consider, and so maybe ID was not the right word to use... I simply use it to mean longer playing time.
