Author Topic: How do I change the target of a start menu thing?  (Read 1123 times)

Like, how would I change the Notepad target to another text thing?

Be more specific, I don't understand what you are trying to ask.

How do I make it so, say I click "Start>All programs>Accessories>Notepad".
How would I make it so it doesn't open the default "Notepad" but it opens another word program?

Are you too lazy to find the other word processing programs link and click it?

I mean, I wanna change the DEFAULT programs. So it seems like the new program is my default. I'm trying to clone a different OS. So I want to make the default MS accessories into new programs to make it seem like I have that OS.

I don't get what you're asking.

And get Notepad++.

Okay, I understand now. I remember looking up a certian CMD that could be inserted into command prompt to do this, but I can't remember what it was...

Oh my god! I'll try to make it more clear.

I am trying to clone a different operation system then my Windows XP

I downloaded new programs that is supposed to look like the default programs on the operation system I'm cloning

I want to know if theres a way to make the "start>all programs>accessories>[program name]" change its target1

1Target, what program opens when you click that shortcut

Clear enough for you?

you can add/delete stuff from the start menu just like it is a folder because thats what it is.  It's all shortcuts.  The actual exe is in your windows folder.  Just right click and delete the original shortcut and coyp/paste your new one.

Eventually, if you use the program enough, then it will add it there default. I don't know how else, you could try Google-ing it.

I figured it out! Thanks Windows 7 forums lol, uh..... and you guys.
