Borderlands is a RPS(Role playing Shooter) Where you can choose either the hunter (rambo with a sniper}, Soldier (the big black dude who always dies first), the girl who likes Corossive and incinderary rounds (The rooster tease), or brute (the big scary mother forgeter who forgets stuff up with his loving fist of fury).
You can choose what skills to upgrade, and its like fallout 3 but better, theres co-op and you can do alot of stuff in this game, and tip of advice, never go againts something 2 levels higher than you.
