I consider District 9 to be a more realistic version of the older movie Alien Nation. Both movies deal with aliens that are stranded on Earth for one reason or another but with Alien Nation, it turns into a police drama with a more futuristic theme of racial tolerance.

And when I say more realistic, I mean as far as how the aliens would be treated, not the whole humans exploding like water balloons when shot, and other obvious plot fantasies dealing with the main character.

I never saw the "original"

I thought V was mediocre. The beginning was slow. The teenager son and his friend were supposed to be 17 but looked like all the 20-somethings who play teens on high school musical. also their acting was horrible.

The lead female role (girl from lost, can't recall the characters name) had decent acting, but all the FBI office stuff seemed unnatural and uncomfortable

the whole aliens being planted among us and waiting for years seems an aweful lot like battlestar galactica... cylon skinjobs anyone?

overall, it was bareable. i think they have potential for some a really good series but they aren't pulling it off correctly yet.
i can see the son becoming attached to the positive media spin of the visitors and the strain that will cause on his (guess what) already strained relationship with his mom. that story line just seems WAY to disney. (it is abc tho...)
 "you have to be 18"
 "aw man, we're 17!"
"you coulda have your mom sign!"
"aw mannn she doesn't know i left the house!"
"aw shoot, i just would have happened to be your counselor"
"aw mannnnnnnn, she's really cute, too bad i snuck out"

also,
Much like Flashforward, the only reason you watch it is to find out what happens in the end,

don't flame me for not suspending my disbelief or something, trust me i loooove scifi. i'll give this show a shot, i liked it but i just grimaced a couple times...

i just watched the old V like about a month ago lol, before i heard of this new one.
so now im all pumped

haha i have to bump this because they did some cool beans on that show
they cut into this guy's head and showed his skullbone and then a V's skullbone, it was really kinda creepy

and then all these people start learning that they're actually V's
PLOT TWIST GO

Saw the first episode, its so bad.

Saw the first episode, its so bad.

Bad as in badass, or bad as in it sucked?

New show is on tonight on ABC at 8 p.m. Eastern (in the US, see below for other air dates) called V.

So, V is apparently a redo of an old TV miniseries from the 1980's, and it's about a race of extra-terrestrials named "The Visitors" by us who come to Earth. They're led by "Anna", who promises nothing but peace and aid. People are suspicious about whether they're really peaceful or not, but it's hard to persuade the mass of people who have come to trust these Visitors when they've helped solve the world's crises.

YouTube's got a massive banner at the top for it, along with a sneak peek.
