In any WW2 game, the M1 Garand was single fire, but it was fast firing, it wasn't bolt action, why would they almost replace the M1 Garand, if they could keep one rifle and replace the Thompson

Because the Garand had a set amount of 8 bullets and weighed heavily. Only in later models was reloading before usage of all 8 shots allowed.
The Carbine was light, easy to reload, and had a higher ammo capacity.
And it is a rifle.
