Now I don't know much, But from my knowledge the OSR uses raycasts to be insta-hit. The raycast doesn't send a bullet but it just appears. Now it would be great to have some insta hit pistols/shotguns, but the problem is we don't need people sniping with a pistol. Would it be possible to stop the raycast at like x bricks in front of the player? This would make the pistol insta-hit anything within range.
Same for shotguns and machine guns.

Hrm... Damage could possibly decrease the farther away your target is?
ex:
Instead of the raycast disapearing 30 bricks in front of you (doing the same amount of damage 2 bricks in front of as 30)
The raycast would disapear at 60 bricks away (Doing 80 damage 2 bricks in front of you, and 40 damage 60 bricks away from you.
Make sense?

Any other thoughts on this?

Not really what I am talking about. The strength of the weapon does not matter, It is the way it is firing that I am talking about.

I prefer projectiles in ANY case. However the raycast on a sniper is understandable because we have a max projectile speed.

How about a gun that does very minor damage when it actually hits the player, but if it goes a certain distance it explodes and does major damage?
