Why is Blockland slow and laggy?

Okay, I play Blockland a lot with a Windows XP and it gets slow and laggy with 6000+ bricks on slate. I cannot play bedroom or kitchen because the map itself creates too much lag. my computer might be crap, I have checked to see if there are any unneccesary programs or games and deleted them, although it wouldnt hurt to do it again.
I dont have too many addons since I reinstalled BL and there was no change in speed/performance.
What is the problem?

Try getting a new video card, a good one I've heard is about $100. (But I'm a dumbass at this sort of thing, so you'll wanna make sure you confirm the price) ATI and nVidia are really good one's, I've heard. I might get one for Christmas.

I don't have very much money, Blockland is one my only 3 games.
i'm poor.
$100 is a whole lot of money for me.
