The shield has one handle yet on your first screenshot he appears to be gripping both sides of it and not the handle at all.

I moved the handle to the left side.
(Now it's on the right though.)

When i did that screen-shot, I had the hammer.
I didn't want the hammer in the screen-shot so i control+w'ed it.
