Author Topic: Help deciding: PS3 or 360?  (Read 3381 times)

I'm having trouble deciding which one to purchase; 360 or PS3?

I want the 360 for a few of its exclusive games and unmatched online play, but I want the PS3 for the BluRay player and also for exclusive games.

As far as graphics go, I've come to believe they're similar, but prove me wrong.
Pricewise, they're about the same.  I am going to college in less than 2 years, as well, so having the PS3-BluRay player combo would be good as something to take with me, as opposed to a 360 and a BluRay/HD-DVD player.

I've tried both consoles and am satisfied with both, so I need help deciding.  I'm currently leaning towards the PS3, as I've owned the PS and PS2 in the past, and since I might not be using the 360's online capabilities since it costs extra money.

Also:  cant he PS3 play older games (PS2 games) or do you need to buy some type of adapter?

As far as I know the only PS3s that have backwards compatibility are the first gen ones. Otherwise no, they don't and you'd need to buy a PS2. Also, I don't want a Blu Ray palyer. I already have way too many DVDs to redo through Blu Ray. So I'm sticking with my xBox.

The opinion of someone on getting a PS3 for themselves who already owns an xbox is relevant how?

I have playstation ave a 3. It can pay Ps2 games, but I don't think it can play PS1. It can also play regular DVD's as well as Blu-Ray.

Since I've never used PS3, I say that you should go for Xbox.
Xbox also has GTA 4 Episodes from Liberty City. :D

I'm going to use the argument I typed up in the "I love ps3 thread":

I despise Sony's controller design, they have no idea what the term "ergonomic" means. It's absolutely terrible. After using a PS2 controller (which is just a PS1 controller anyway), I thought the PS3 controller might be a little more comfortable, after all it's their 3rd goddamn console, but wow. It's so uncomfortable and frustrating to hold, I can't even play decently. The buttons are flat against a flat surface, all of which should be angled, and the buttons have no "click", like the NES and SNES controllers, so it hardly feels like you're pressing a button. The shoulder buttons are irritating as hell, the same button problems, why isn't the lower button a trigger? This has to be my biggest selling point with the 360 vs. PS3: Comfort and ease of use. I refuse to use the Playstation controller. I'd actually prefer to play a gamecube over a PS3.

I suggest 360 for comfort and ease of use.

Ps3, because every single person I've known that has had a Xbox360(which is about 11 people) tradded their Xbox in for a Ps3 because their Xbox wouldn't stop frickin' breaking!

I still own my old PS2, if it can't.

As far as PS1 games I really don't care, I hardy play the PS1 anymore.

Xbox
We shall do XBL :D
Yeah, I might not get XBL, though, that's why I'm not sure, since that might not be a valid pro for my decision.

I saw this when I read that thread.  Only thing is that I'm so used to DualShock controllers by now, and I really don't mind putting out another 50$ to buy a more ergonomic controller from Logitech (seeing how Logitech controllers are also very high-quality).

If I had a 360 I would probably end up getting a different controller, anyway, since they usually offer some sweet designs and such.

I've heard about the RROD on the Xbox, but I'm sure the PS3 can do something similar if you messed it up enough.

Your friends in the sped class don't count.

Your xbox won't break if you know how to maintain a computer, it's a sensitive piece of hardware, not an indestructible game cube.

Keep the Xbox 360 Power Brick on a surface that isn't carpet.
Thats what I do and I haven't had any problems with my 360. I got mine before there were categories.
:D

The Playstation 3 is a neat system indeed, but I personally prefer the Xbox because of all the features I've gotten used to while using it.

Listing some of those nice features would help me decide, you know :p

360 seems to have a huge selection of good games, but the ps3 has some too, and has bluray... But I prefer 360
