Author Topic: Writing question.  (Read 983 times)

Hey folks.

I was recently assigned a short story project for Lit. I decided to do for this, a story based off of a video game that I enjoy, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Shadow of Chernobyl.

While I didn't copy anything from the game directly except what S.T.A.L.K.E.R. stood for, I did borrow heavily from the backstory and recorded a ten-minute fight scene that I then wrote in to the story. (Basically took what I did in-game and wrote down, creatively, what went on as an action sequence) The story is original itself, the scenario that plays out in my story doesn't actually happen in the game, and the story itself is actually more about the morality of killing.

I'm still worried, however, about being accused of plagiarizing, I figured thought that it's something more like basing your story off of a game, but what do you guys think?

Unless your teacher plays that game, you're fine.

You'd only be pronounced plagiarizing if stalker is a text adventure :cookieMonster:

I once did something based on L4D. Felt like a friend doing it, but I aced the assignment.

He specified what kind of question it is.
oh you mean like that

well he could be writing a question... let's click it

I didn't even bother reading the topic, don't write about a video game, ever.

This is my win plan, has never failed me:

1. Introduce the great land and how beautiful it is.

2. Introduce the evil villain and the problem.

3. Introduce the effect of the villain and problem.

4. Introduce the hero.

5. Insert twenty paragraphs of awesome stuff.

6. Make sure that the hero chases the villain in some way.

7. The hero begins to own the villain.

8. At the last second the villain uses some sort of plottwist to change the effect.

9. Insert monologue here.

10. More battling.

11. Hero wins.

12. Villain becomes good.

13. Princess get.

14. Princess bakes the hero a cake after getting 121 stars and fighting a giant turtle.

15. ???

16. A+

Trust me, it works.

you'd have to be thinking to hard to draw that conclusion :s

I thought he was gonna write a question when I saw the topic..

i can't even come up with a logical response to that ._.

nevermind.

sirrus, you could just change the names of everything in the story. it doesn't have to be in the same universe.

otherwise, you're just writing fan-fiction

You could probably condense that down into fewer steps to make it easier to remember, but the principles are there.

Fan fiction, right. That didn't even occur to me, thanks bro.
