You guys are all idiots, as said above.

Certain tasks = logging into websites.

Lol. A cookie used to log into a website does not speed up the time it takes to perform that task. It performs an entirely different task altogether.

I figured you'd try and turn the meaning of what you said. A sad attempt to try and salvage your poor explanation of a cookie. Let me put what you've said into a different context:

Computers are for being able to order your shopping on the internet.

It doesn't really explain exactly what they do, does it? I'm not going to argue the point further - I know your ego will go to some pretty hilarious lengths to "win" an internet discussion. I just thought I'd correct you before you miseducate people.

The thing is, that's actually what I meant. Obviously you don't believe me, but I worded it poorly.

Tracking cookies are for interactive systems on the web that personalize themselves to your internet usage.
On the other hand, they can also be used for keytracking. :P
