Materials give entertainment. No 5 year old kid in the US would rather spend time with family than get new stuff.

And really, using the "there are people who don't have that" is the most bull stuff excuse ever. Sucks to be them. Life's about survival, not equality. It's not his fault that some people have such stuffty lives, so don't put the blame on his.

I did when I was 5. Well, not my entire family, considering most of them were/are bastards. But my Mum and siblings I would want to be with at the very least.

And does it truly suck that they may not know the entertainment of material or does it suck that these so called 5 year old Americans care over entertainment than their own family?

The only way a person can live a "stuffty life" is through not appreciating what they have and the Love around them and in them. Some of the worst lives are those of people who are indeed wealthy. Neither wealth nor material possessions measure the quality and happiness in ones life. No matter what ones position, a person can live happily and have a great life.
