Author Topic: New Graphics Card  (Read 8928 times)

So you use your computer to compensate for your small e-peen on the internet.
I'd like to point out that a good computer is part of having a sizable e-snake. You can't compensate for lack of e-snake by having a good computer since it is (part of) your e-snake.

You'd know all about that.

Decel's computer isn't even that good.

Never said it was. I said it was better than what was being discussed in this topic. I claimed nothing more.

You need a new motherboard br0.

yeah, Im not too good on the science :s

Hey guys, let's clear up some MAJOR technological issues people are having in this thread.  I love the internet, because it is the place where someone can bring up a topic, and 20 other people will post like they know what they are talking about when, in actuality they haven't the slightest idea.

Hey look, the guy who assumes that everyone has stuffloads of money. ATI has cheaper cards that are almost as good.

With terrible driver support, and high power consumption and temperatures, yes.

But I've been told you can't replace chip sets because they are integrated in the motherboard, care to elaborate?

Chipsets are not graphics cards.  There are chipsets IN the graphics cards, but they are not the "chipsets" you are referring to.

So you mean like an external graphics card?? Maybe a picture would help me understand? of what I need to get? Can I just get any graphics card and install it? or do I need a certain size? Hao2check compatibility?

There is no such thing as an external graphics card.  Graphics cards are cards, that are placed into an internal "port" on your motherboard, INSIDE of the computer.  Basically, if your computer is less than 10 years old, you can buy most graphics cards and be fine.  But, in order to be sure about compatibility, research what motherboard you have and find which slot it has, either "AGP", "PCI", or "PCI-e".  Then, get a graphics card that conforms to the one of those three that you have.  IF your motherboard has more than one kind of slot, remember this: PCI-e>PCI>AGP.

Also, two GTX285s beats a 5970.

Wrong.  You are simply spewing crap because you are mad I've got better graphics performance for less money.

http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/radeon-hd-5970,2474-8.html

I bought the Radeon HD 4890 for $160 which beats out the 275 GTX which is about $250, and almost beats the 285.

It most certainly doesn't beat out the 285, which, before the 5850, was the fastest single-GPU graphics card.   As for the 275, in some games, yes, in most games, no.  Again, with terrible driver support, high power consumption, and high temperatures.

35-40 FPS

Yeah, I don't consider that playable.

Idiot.  That's all I have to say.

You're so arrogant. 40fps is playable considering that the human eye can only process 60.

Heh heh, no.  Do to various specialties of the eye, FPS is not the only thing involved, and if it wasn't for some factors, the eye would have a nigh-unlimited range in what fps it could process.  But, 40fps is playable, most certainly.

As to the whole "MY FPS IS BETTER THAN YOURS" argument, decel is continuing in his moronic argument because he's hiding the fact that the resolution that he plays at is MUCH smaller, and therefore, lower hardware is able to give out much better numbers.

I run .ISOs

So you admit to pirating stuff?

How can you install windows via .iso?

Actually, you can burn disks that you already have into ISOs, place them on a USB drive, and install whatever program through the USB, thereby bypassing the optical drive.  You can do the same with windows, too, all of it legal.

This is my FPS with L4D2 maxed out, looking over a wide area. I'm sure I would be easily able to run Borderlands maxed out.
And, I have the same graphics card as OP (ATi 4650).

GUYS.  L4D2 IS A PROCESSOR-LIMITED GAME.  IF YOU HAVE A GOOD ENOUGH PROCESSOR, IT DOESN'T REALLY MATTER HOW GOOD YOUR GRAPHICS CARD IS.

Frankly, I think it's time you all take a very good look at yourselves, realize that none of you know everything there is to know about the subject, and just drop the whole thing.

-snip-
Because you're obviously the master of it all.
Also 2x GTX 285s can beat the 5970. Crysis is one very poorly optimized game. Very bias.

Oh, and for the record:

He's right about the source engine.
It's mostly a CPU hogging game and requires little to stuff of a GPU.

I never said anything about source... why did you quote me?

I said that because he said he didn't even have an optical disk drive, yet he plays PC games. I never said it was impossible to install on OS without a disk, Gen. Nick did. And he admitted to pirating btw.

Couldn't have ripped them to .iso before getting a new computer, thats for sure.
Oh and 90% of my games are steam or other digital download (ie blizzard, direct2drive), but nope, I've GOT to have the disk. I literally only had to rip two. Sigh.

I never said anything about source... why did you quote me?
I quoted you, because you think duckmeister isn't the master of it all.
Unless if my sarcasm detection meter is running low.

God you're a moron.

You didn't say that before, AND

yes, I do pirate.
