I'm damn convinced.

I've become insanely sick of Vista. It has so many bugs, it's horribly slow, and I don't know how many times I've been attacked from a website with Avast barely saving my OS.

And then, today, Miga tells me that Ubuntu is open source.

I'm really thinking about switching, I'm going to try the disc-mounted tour first.

Do so. They'll send you a disk free of charge (or you can download/burn it yourself quicker), you can try it on your computer to see if everything works. If you like it, you can install it there and then easily and if you don't, remove the disk and restart the computer and it's as if it was never there.

Even Windows 7 apparently has some huge bugs. I'd rather not spend two hundred dollars on the same thing with a different taskbar, I think I'd rather get a new OS.

Ubuntu looks good.

I'm downloading the ISO right now. Do you have it?

EDIT: The main thing I'm worried about is losing all of my games and such. Is there any way to keep these (Via steam, or whatever) along with most of my Vista files?

I probably can't back Steam games up. :c

EDITEDIT: Burning it to a disc now.

I love Ubuntu but getting internet on it is nearly loving impossible for me. I give up every time with the lack of drivers for any Netgear USB internet receivers. :(

I've been using Windows 7 since the early beta releases and I've had no problems with it. Trust me when I say it's worth every penny.

Alright, 5 times now and it doesn't want to boot up. I looked it up, Ubuntu doesn't like my Nvidia GeForce 9500 GS Integrated. Which sucks. :c

Anyone know a way to get it to work?

I have never had any problems with Vista. Where is all of this coming from?

Get the alternative iso and try that.

And I am guessing if it doesn't boot, try other distros like Mandriva, PCLinuxOS, openSUSE, Fedora, PC-BSD.

Mandriva is nice but do custom partitioning, but it's easier to work with packages.

Double toast: Updates and just normal waredown.

My vista corrupted when it downloaded SP1.

I like 7 better, just don't get starter :P. Get Ultimate or Home Premium.

Psst
Ubuntu also has a lot of bugs

specifically a lack of wi-fi drivers :C
If you have a laptop, however, you should be fine.

If you are a student with a valid .edu email address, you can purchase a Windows 7 Premium Upgrade disk for $30. It allows you to upgrade from Vista or a lower version of Windows 7. Also Windows 7 is much more then a new taskbar, it has an incredible amount of stability and speed improvements over vista, so much so that it runs great even on my old Pentium 4 computer, which is something Vista would stuff itself trying to do.

*Edit: here is where you can get Windows 7 for $30 if your a Student. https://store.digitalriver.com/servlet/ControllerServlet?Action=DisplayForgotPasswordPage&Locale=en_US&SiteID=mswpus&pgm=48726700&resid=SzzeqgoBAiMAAC2fSfUAAAAV&rests=1262280363302&roi=drms-406442398-809894-d8e29f25575a0936bcff6919ad8e0183

Also the offer Expires January 5th so BUY IT BEFORE THE OFFER EXPIRES.
