So, I start it up, and I get this error that says something about the module failed.

Is Windows 7 the problem?

Well, it actually never shows me anything but black. Then it gives me this error.

Requires Vista or Windows 7.
Right click desktop, click personalize. Click Window Color. Assuming you have Aero enabled you can change the color.

Sounds like a problem with the game. I use Windows 7 and get no problems running HL2 (only running L4D2 FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF-)

I fixed it,
File->settings->in-game->Enable Steam Community In-Game
