A brief history of elevators:
Old RTB had something called "movers", this were bricks that would move. However, the method by which they would move was very crappy. Basically they would teleport slightly, wait a fraction of a second, then teleport slightly. This created the impression that they were moving. However this method is very laggy, and looks bad because the jumping is very noticeable.
In the earlier days of retail, Trader began working on elevators. They used the same method as the old movers. This lead the project into abandonment. When most people talk about JVS elevators, they're talking about this, seeing as he had public servers showing off the mod before decided they did not have an underlying quality required for release. He discovered another method that is much better than the old horrible method, however this is method is prone to a bug within the very engine blockland runs on, and would require Badspot to fix it before they may ever be realized as a mod.
Now, many less skilled programmers have taken up the task of trying to create elevators. However they all try the old way of doing things, which leads to many cautionary posts from Trader and others, always succeeding to have the moder decide to not continue in their broken quest of making elevators. This is a good thing as it keeps out mods that would lag servers horribly and be poor quality out of circulation.
If one day Badspot takes it upon himself to fix the bug that keeps Trader from creating JVS elevators, Blockland will sometime after be blessed by Trader's skills yet again with JVS elevators. However until that day we'll have to live without. Which isn't really that bad. Staircases work just fine after all.
