Author Topic: Seeking good city builders!  (Read 1032 times)

Tell your friends! Tell your dog! I've decided to give my old project another go with a more aggressive marketing campaign, since I'm the talk of the town lately.

I've created an automatic city generator which builds buildings and then intelligently places objects inside. The only problem: I need buildings and object to scan!

Last time I tried this I got nothing in two weeks. Well instead of just opening the server and hoping someone shows up, I'm posting here. I need good city builders interested in creating some works to put into the public domain (no signatures in the build, please) for the generator to use. Come in, bring a friend, build, have fun. I'll try to keep the server open as much as possible.

Did I mention generated cities work great with zombies? They do. And you can always generate a 2x2 grid of buildings and seal it off for some creeper fun too.  :cookieMonster: But that stuff can't happen unless I have some buildings to release with.

Hope to see you there!  :cookieMonster:

Details:
After you finish your building, you and I will work together to get special "prop markers" put into your build. These prop markers tell the systems what kind of smaller builds ("props") should be selected and possibly stuck in there. So a desk might have on it a lamp, a computer, etc., while a parking space can have all kinds of cars. Using this system, your building can have totally different stuff in it (and different colors - but that's a story for another day) even if it appears in the same city twice.
If you want, you can build your entire building fully furnished, and we can convert the smaller things into props for use in all buildings. Props take low commitment so there's not a lot of need for them; I need big ol' buildings more than anything.

EDIT: The builds are 64x64, stop making 32x32 I hate wanding all this cool stuff.

If you show up here's the rules:
 - Try to make it kinda decent
 - Try to build with variation in mind, like details and color schemes being changeable by the generation system.
 - Keep the brick count as low as possible; spamming bricks into a wall to make a pattern with the textures is not justifiable, as it cuts down the maximum city size a ton.
 - Buildings are 64x64, please build with the entire city block in mind (usually will just be 1 property for the whole thing). Seeing the same set of 4 32x32s again is more tedious than just seeing a single 64x64 again.
 - Build in the road grid or aligned with it if you can, that's how I scan them in.

wait why didn't you tell me about this again

Sounds hot
unfortunately I don't think my builds would be high quality enough for it

sounds like fun, so you're generating city's with bricks? make sure you keep the brickcount somewhat low :D

fun, i might come by and make a park :D

Ah, I remember you working on this last time.  I was planning on contributing then, but you abruptly stopped working on it.  Anyway, I'll try stopping by later on and throwing something together.

I get a lot of questions about the system, so let me try and clear some stuff up here:

After you finish your building, you and I will work together to get special "prop markers" put into your build. That's quite ingenious. I'll stop by and make something.

I can build you a road pack

Srsly someone tell the clanners to get in here and start building crap.  :cookieMonster:
