Author Topic: The 128k Bricklimit and how to get rid of it.  (Read 3793 times)

one day i loaded all my saves

that was epic

then i filled it with zombies and placed player spawns

zombie world  :cookieMonster:

can i report people because they dont even read the 1st post? -.-

I dont want to discuss about its necessity.
And no, the bricklimit is "hardcoded".

And no, the bricklimit is "hardcoded".
Uh, no, it's not. It's based on hardware limitation.

READ the link, Badspot have written that its hardcoded because the id of a brick is 17bit long (2^17 = 131072).

At the moment i have a big problem to not swear, please read my post completly and the link to Badspots post in my second post

128k is the limit.

It continues.

I spammed 128000 bricks. reached the limit.

I then put in a server pref

Code: [Select]
$Pref::Server::Brickcount = 0;
Build a little castle.

And look, my spam continues to exist.

Its %100 possible to go over the brick limit. however. The duplicator stops working.

Congratulations, you have build 128k bricks and then 107 more.
BUT the limit is 131072 and i think that 128107 is lower than this.

So, please do your experiment again and try to go over 131072. then you will see the real limit.

Yes, I know that there is no limit in singleplayer.

BUT the limit is 131072 and i think that 128107 is lower than this.

Lolwat? The OP disregards this whole thing.

Maybe next time you should read your own OP.

He's building something for a server. Doesn't anyone actually read the OP. Also, Space Guy showed you how to repeat his "experiment", so couldn't you just load up the build that hit the max, type in the pref, and see if you can build higher than 131072? If you are unable, you'd at least have 2965 more bricks made. Stop being so lazy and try doing things yourself.

I allready did.
I will refer, as all the time, to the OP.

Yes, I will and allready have reached the limit.
Yes, you can bypass it, but just from 128k to 130k then your bricks wont appear anymore.

If nothing else, you could email or PM Badspot and ask.

Yes, there is a hard limit of 128k bricks visible to a player at a time.

If lots of people are hitting the limit it could be raised. It requires recompiling the game, so it can't be done from script.

Warground's builds do use lots of small bricks, but they are pretty. Maybe try using some bigger bricks so you can use your 128k budget better.

There will always be a limit, even if we go to 20 bits or more. Eventually you will run out of memory or other stuff.

Well, yes the memory would be a problem.
At the moment it seems that 128k-bricks~500mb-ram.
Lets say it will be raised up to 20bit, 1024k-Bricks, that would be around 4GB(to much for a 32bit programs which are just able to use 3,6GB)

But when we say 19bit, 512k bricks, we would be at 2GB which isn't a problem for modern PCs.
Also you can give support for only 128k  for the first time but let enthusiasts raise it up to 512k per config at their own risk.
Like overclocking a CPU :P.

Well lots of people just build their family RPs with max. 10000 bricks. They dont care. But for him and me it's a drastic limitation and we can't start / finish the projects we wanted to do. I think there are also other people with the same problem.

I know him as a person who takes the compromise between brick-saving and good-looking. It's not just the mansion itself (it will never hit the 128k including a full detailed interior), it is to create also some things around it and start projects with small landscapes.
We started the public server Bac's Town V2 ("ATFclan.eu's Town V2 by BAC") again (last time it was online during the time BAC released the Plate2 map). It is to show you that we don't build spam.
A bigger problem with the limit we will get with the non public rpg project. With a crew of 6-8 skilled guys we started it. Now we have 70000 bricks (a spawn level and some unordered stuff).

The complete rest of the "world" isn't finished (we won't build all the stuff at one place) and how should that work with under 130k bricks.
Does the castle in pic 00008 looks like its builded prodigal?

Maybe you should get warned when you build too much bricks or something. Or you raise the hardcoded limit and set it in the config where everyone can change it with the message that it's your own risk.
Is there a way to stream the bricks or does the memory gets cleared when you go far away from the bricks?

I'm also asking myself why people post here that the limit is fine, who never builded more than 10 bricks just to spawn some weapons to shoot their brains out of their head.

I don't care really...the only time I ever got 128000 was when I build a tower 20 high of 1x1fs and duped them lots of times
The game got incredibly slow and saving crashed me! :D
