.999999.... Repeating does equal 1.  There is no error in the math.

Yes, stop stating the obvious.

.99... x 3 = 1 x 3

Oreally?

Yes, stop stating the obvious.
In later maths involving limits and things, that may be true, but in general terms, dkamm65 just spelt it out for the layman.
Hmm, to me it seems as if you have your arguments backwards. You agree with him, while you state the reverse argument in a previous post.

So he is a hypocrite, yes?

Its fine for numeric maths.
When dealing with concepts which apply to curves, etc, its important to know the difference between 0.999 rec. or 1.

So he is a hypocrite, yes?
I don't believe that hes exactly a hypocrite, he just doesn't have his facts straight.

Quote from: wiki
Hypocrisy is the act of persistently pretending to hold beliefs, opinions, virtues, feelings, qualities, or standards that one does not actually hold. Hypocrisy is thus a kind of lie.

Don't get all edgy on me. I was rather reasonable.

Its fine for numeric maths. [that is, operations on purely numbers. 1+1, that stuff]
But when dealing with concepts which apply to curves, etc, its important to know the difference between 0.999 rec. or 1, so you don't make mistakes.

There is no difference between .999... and 1, as proven by large variety of proof in a Wikipedia article: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/0.999...

Oh, my bad, typo, the word should have been "proofs."

No, Wikipedia is not "proof" or "proofs."

Yes, we know, you don't need to state it any more.
