Have fun trolling us here. It's not like we're really going to 'crumble' without your support.

The difference between you and Lalam is that he's still free to use our forums and would likely enjoy the change in rules that permits cursing on the servers. That, and he wasn't ever 'herp derp ss is dum lol' but rather was wanting the atmosphere to change.

I guess since I can't edit, I'll add this here:

Since Kearn was so kind to bump a fairly dead topic simply to say 'ss servers r dumb' and has already been on thin ice in Scattered Space for generally being a nuisance, I've perma-banned him from SS. Since you blatantly posted that all you're waiting for is the 'servers to inevitably collapse', you've basically clarified to me that all you've been doing since you joined is trolling for no reason other than you think we're big stupid doo-doo heads.

Posted this just so you can go ahead and point to this in your most likely inevitable 'omg ss banned me because they're such national socialists' drama topic.

On the topic of swearing on the dogfight, we've been pretty lenient since this topic has came up and are only really banning for spam-swearing and users generally only wanting to cause more of a disruption than playing on the server.

Isn't it Wizzard's?

Wizzard currently hosts the [SS] Dogfight Server and provides the hosting computer for Mr. Doom's temporary [SS] Block City Server until Kinex fixes his server computer issues.

It really goes out of hand if the admin is not in the server of the 24/7 server, there will be people that will break the rules, and theres nothing we can do about it.

Yeah, agreed. We're most likely not going to find a team that can cover all hours of the day, so it's regrettable that people can ruin it for others when there aren't any admins present.

hey cool
this actually turned into something productive
gj guys.

with the occasional "[ss] is sheed," but whatever.

Indeed, I am quite surprised by this turn of events.

We don't want the server to be a 24/7 trollfest where actual gameplay is hindered, and do welcome feedback (though it's hard to cut through the BS that a lot of these types of threads attract most of the time). Suggestions are also welcome on our forums, for those so inclined.

Solution:

Admin trustworthy people so an admin can be on there longer.

I've seen idiots who teamkill on your TDM for 20-30 minutes straight.

Lack of trustworthy admins in SS. Let's also not turn this thread into a 'herp derp ima good moderator!'

Teamkilling shouldn't be an issue anymore, as team damage is off. The worst others on your team can do to you nowadays is run over you with a plane on the runways.

you should ban morons who say 'loving [weapon here] noob'; not everyone else.

I try to intercede in those types of stupidity-filled arguments where both parties generally end up saying 'NO BAN HIM HE STARTED IT WAAA', but of course there's also going to be the times when no admins or moderators are on.

So would it be more beneficial to just add 'em all to the filter (as whole words, not parts, since that is always fun to deal with)? Is seeing 'Type civilly' and getting your message blocked less rage-inducing than being told not to curse?

No, people who are sensitive should just turn on their curse filter.

That still generally doesn't solve the problem of people running amok calling everyone that kills them a 'loving [weapon here] noob', and instead turns into '**** [weapon here] noob', which generally only leads to 'nuh uh' and continued derpfest-arguments.

Like Kinex posted, swearing is fine. Just don't go calling every player who kills you a 'loving noob' or whatever. That rarely leads to anything worthwhile. Just grit your teeth, yell at your wall that that guy is a 'god damn nade spammer' or 'rocket loving noob' or whatever, and try and move on and enjoy the pointless killing of blocky figurines.

I like spicy food.

I fail to see how calling someone a 'loving idiot' after they kill you gets any 'stuff done.'

If you find yourself unable to stop yourself from insulting others after they kill you, simply don't connect to the Dogfight.

A link to the server rules has been added to the welcome message, to prevent future confusion.

I don't remember if this was MeltingPlastic's or Kinex's, but one of them was hosting a lottery type thing and you guessed what numbers would appear, and if you got 2 or more right you'd get super admin. If you guessed wrong, you'd get banned.

This sounds like a horrible idea. Regardless, this feature is not on any Scattered Space server.

Why not add a link in the welcoming message?

Hmm, I'll have to check out what's currently displayed and see if it can be pared down to add the link in.

Since a majority of the complaints lie in the fact that 'i didn't even know it was a rule!', I guess it's time to invest in a pop-up for rules upon first connecting, or something of similar nature.

What is wrong with having a normal, vanilla server? It's absolutely ridiculously hard to find one without stuffty addons like HLStatsX, Mani, or custom sound mods.

One man's favored add-on is another's hated. If you chose to not play on our server because of an admin mod that will affect your gameplay in no way, that's your choice. But please take your 'vanilla TF2 is better' discussion someplace else - our server runs a few add-ons and this thread is about it.

In other news, it seems that the server has been updated successfully and is avoiding the lag problems it was having last night. Currently, the only custom content on the server are maps - the add-ons may return after the free weekend, to promote server stability.

An error on the server provider's end is preventing us from properly updating the server with the latest update. A support ticket has been sent in.

Now we play the waiting game.
