anyone remember ostinyo's nuketown domination?
that was the loving stuff
we need more servers like that

PLEASE! NOT LIKE OLD TIMES! The last thing we need is 50% of the servers CityRPGs, 25% Fort Wars, 15% Freebuilds, 5% love RPGs and the remaining 5% actually decent servers.

So you would prefer like new times?  70% random RP, 15% freebuilds, 5% empty good-build servers, 8% knife TDMs, and 2% anything decent?  People are so desperate for fort wars that a server labeled "Fort Wars" had 15+ players, despite the lack of a minigame and the excessive amount of event-based rocket spam.  There are three things we are missing: Community builds, dedicated TDM/DMs, and a use for the fantastic builds people have been making recently.

Community builds used to draw large crowds to help build.

The average TDMs/DMs nowadays are either terribly made, quickly put together, or lack organization - the good TDMs/DMs are rarely hosted, and when they are hosted, the games just lose their luster because they are all unoriginal and overused.

Since the loss of maps, many new, fantastic builds have been made - cities, landscapes, structures - but these are never used for anything other than showing off.  If servers are ever hosted with these fantastic builds, they are void of players because there is nothing to do on those servers.

The best solution for this is to combine the three.  Host a community build server to make something fantastic, and host a TDM/DM in the build.  Do this three or four times, and we have enough servers to quench our thirst for new stuff.

major over-exaggeration nvm

Free builds only work if your server has a known reputation. And people can trust it will be up for a long time.
No one wants to put time into something that will be offline before they could ever finish it.

is it me or does this guy sound like some of those really old games with bad english translations

Freebuilds get full of snake builds in seconds. And confetti spam.

Well I'm hosting a TDM right now, but nobody seems interested. :c

if you guys are so worried about good servers, here's what I would do:

1. Find an unpopulated (0-3 players) server that looks interesting/new.
2. Invite some of your friends to check out the game with you.
3. Play.
4. Watch as more people join the server because there are people populating the server!

People like to follow the masses, as I have learned. Whenever I host a server, I find that before I have 4 players at my server, picking up more is a real challenge. As I get more, however, the server fills up at a much more reasonable rate. This is why bad servers are usually popular. They have a gamemode that appeals to most people (RP, TDM, Fort Wars, etc) and get a few players off the bat.

also shameless advertising for my Fantasy DM which is now on a dedicated server~
