Its Japanese you forget.
i guess it's a cute attempt to try and bring in general games into this thread but, if you read the thread context, mario, zelda, and such really aren't meant here. just like the drawings thread implies that YOU made the drawing, this thread implies that the games are blatantly japanese and are obviously seen as such. when looking at the games in this thread, it's quite obvious that they're japanese styled/inspired. mario doesn't belong because it contains little of those and is already heavily westernized.

plus we already have a nintendo thread. sure nintendo games are japanese, but they fit better in their specific thread where more people are likely to be interested in them. and even beyond that we have a pokemon thread, which is specifically about pokemon, even though pokemon is nintendo. it's also sort of like how we have furry and brony threads. bronys are furrys, but they have a more specific topic so they can discuss and weird out exclusively about brony-content and not have to read through pages of unrealted conversations, hoping to find people to talk to.

The thread says Japanese games discussion...

I see what you did there.

OP was still wrong, Mario is Japanese. Not in back story wise.

So it has to fit stereotypes. okay.

So it has to fit stereotypes. okay.
no. dark souls is a japanese game that doesn't really fit stereotypes, and would belong here, but it already has it's own thread! it's more about that than anything; we don't need two threads to crosspost the same things. comments like "man I wish more JRPGs had dark souls combat, does anyone know any good action japanese games?" are fine, but "lets talk about dark souls" should go in the dark souls thread

future-proofing/ramble:
"but b b but heed now you're saying things have to stay in their own thread??? what kind of containment is this??"
but they don't. like i said above, talking about mario and dark souls is fine, but not in a context where you convert the thread discussion into a clone of an existing thread. think of these types of threads as rooms. if I love mario-style platformers and want to find more, I'd leave the mario room and come here to ask about some. If someone in this room found a japanese mario game, he'd go to the mario room to see if anyone else has played it and ask for tips/suggestions. it's like those kids who always ask about specific game bugs. just go to the official game forums to discuss that because they'll probably know more.

it's about contributing to multiple threads by contributing in context. it's annoying to topic-bounce to keep up on information. i shouldn't have to check the japanese game, nintendo, and pokemon thread to find pokemon news. it should be in the pokemon thread where it's expected. it's like when 'big' blockland news occurs (like shaders or the 'my little brother' thing) 5 topics pop up about the same thing: the original topic that isn't usually in drama but causes drama (which grew into 20 pages of argument), 3 other topics (each of considerable length) splattered all across the different boards, and another topic that's been contaminated by the 'big news'. then you have to topic-bounce to keep up with what people say and it becomes really annoying. there's nothing preventing you from bringing things from other rooms here, but don't try to convert the room when you already have a better place to discuss your topic

i really like JRPGs that play like FF, FE, SRW, tactics ogre. pretty much anything that can be played mobile and doesn't require reflex/action input. anyone got any good ones?

MS Saga is pretty dope, but it's mostly fanservice for people who are into Gundam and good luck finding a copy of it.

But Shin Megami Tensei is awesome. Try a game from that series. Persona included.

I always wanted to play this but its only in Japanese and I think only runs on the consoles that were sold in Japan. Plus there isnt a english version, you have to mod the PS2 to get it in english.

Oh, and I wanted to play FFX International version too. Looks sweet.

dark souls
Speaking of dark souls.

From Software's other series. Armored Core.

Needs a PC game. :c

I would kill for some more PC mech games. Especially Armored Core and Virtual-On.

Luckily, on thee 2D front, we've got some good stuff. Gunhound EX and Gigantic Army are both on Steam and they both take a lot of cues from Assault Suits Valken. They're forgetin' awesome, if a bit short. And difficult.

aight mofos check this stuff out

Astebreed is gonna come out soon on Playism. It's by Edelweiss, who made Ether Vapor and Fairy Bloom Freesia. These two are on Steam under a different publisher.

Since Playism's last release (the SUPERlovingAWESOME Gunhound EX) is also on Steam, there's no reason to believe Astebreed won't be on Steam. Now watch this seizure-inducing awesome.
