So it has to fit stereotypes. okay.
no. dark souls is a japanese game that doesn't really fit stereotypes, and would belong here, but it already has it's own thread! it's more about that than anything; we don't need two threads to crosspost the same things. comments like "man I wish more JRPGs had dark souls combat, does anyone know any good action japanese games?" are fine, but "lets talk about dark souls" should go in the dark souls thread
future-proofing/ramble:
"but b b but heed now you're saying things have to stay in their own thread??? what kind of containment is this??"
but they don't. like i said above, talking about mario and dark souls is fine, but not in a context where you convert the thread discussion into a clone of an existing thread. think of these types of threads as rooms. if I love mario-style platformers and want to find more, I'd leave the mario room and come here to ask about some. If someone in this room found a japanese mario game, he'd go to the mario room to see if anyone else has played it and ask for tips/suggestions. it's like those kids who always ask about specific game bugs. just go to the official game forums to discuss that because they'll probably know more.
it's about contributing to multiple threads by contributing in context. it's annoying to topic-bounce to keep up on information. i shouldn't have to check the japanese game, nintendo, and pokemon thread to find pokemon news. it should be in the pokemon thread where it's expected. it's like when 'big' blockland news occurs (like shaders or the 'my little brother' thing) 5 topics pop up about the same thing: the original topic that isn't usually in drama but causes drama (which grew into 20 pages of argument), 3 other topics (each of considerable length) splattered all across the different boards, and another topic that's been contaminated by the 'big news'. then you have to topic-bounce to keep up with what people say and it becomes really annoying. there's nothing preventing you from bringing things from other rooms here, but don't try to convert the room when you already have a better place to discuss your topic
i really like JRPGs that play like FF, FE, SRW, tactics ogre. pretty much anything that can be played mobile and doesn't require reflex/action input. anyone got any good ones?
