Author Topic: Utah Lawmaker plans research blocking filters  (Read 2884 times)

in public libraries? ok

well wait, what if someone throws the entire state at a cowboy and it pokes him in the eye with that right angle
dont worry his posse will back him up

um

Actually I think texas would still win because throwing the state might break it, but I think the cowboy's eye would still hurt.

its funny cause mormon research is supposedly an exploding industry lmao
mormon research?

i'm tired as forget and misread "plans" as "bans"

the article's first line seems like it's written poorly? the legislation supposedly would require filters in public libraries (big deal), but apparently he also wants to mandate manufacturers to have factory-default filters that could be removed "if it's verified the owner is over 18."

which is totally out of the state's jurisdiction unless the companies are manufacturing phones in utah (which i doubt), and they'd be going down a rocky road if they want to in some way stop products from outside the state. In Short, that part of the bill would almost certainly be unconstitutional if it were challenged in the supreme court (it would be because this doesn't just inconvenience children)

of course that's assuming the bill would even pass through the legislature, which i'm hoping would never in a million years happen because it's such a stupid bill

I always found it really odd when someone like him tries to claim that research is bad for you. In ways, it probably is for me, because I'm furry, but let's assume we're talking about normal people.
There's absolutely no problems with it, and I'm really scared that lawmakers are focusing on this instead of bigger problems.

When you say lawmakers you really just mean "one senator".

I really doubt the entirety of a political party is going up in arms about this.

True. I guess the fact that this makes a headline makes it bigger than it is.

mormon research?
it's pictures of girls in bikinis, only the bikini is covered up by bubbles
it makes it hard to tell a clothed woman from a nude one

Lol I can just imagine this evolving into a country wide ban like the Prohibition. research producers move into the back woods to make their products, just like the moonshiners.

That would make for some interesting researchos

it'll never happen. the religious right has significantly less control over the USA than it did in 1920

"Almost every kid in Utah is walking around with a smart phone, which is basically a vending machine for research in a lot of respects," Sen. Weiler said." The Actual forget? A phone can be used a lot more than just research, And most parents don't give a forget what their child is doin on they're phone, It just reminds me of "Big Brother is Watching you" And I have a sneaking suspicion that this guy is going to be involved in somthing deep later on down the road (Child research/Gun Trafficking/ect.)

can someone translate this gibberish

The legislation is loving stupid
The people trying to pass it are even more so

Like honest to god, this is wrong in so many ways, even if it was just restricted to government-owned computers designed for use by the public. They already have filters installed. If they don't it's for a good reason. They can just kick out people if they're honest to god looking at loving research on a library computer, which I'd bet real loving money on that it happens so rarely that it's not even needed. Forcing them to put one on is completely redundant and handicapped.

The other thing stupid with it, the instances where this filter will actually come into play is so ridiculously small that the cost of even having the house and senate and congress debating on it far, far outweighs any possible benefits.

But the article doesn't say they want to limit it to library computers. They want to get it in everywhere that they can get it. Phones, tablets, desktop loving computers, random loving websites on the internet which already have goddamn NSFW filters. Like holy stuff cool your beans stuffhead, not only is research not a bad thing that you shouldn't be trying to hinder access to, but that adds a whole new level of bullstuff that people have to deal with. The embarrassment of having to prove that you're over 18 so you can look at research. The inability to have basic control over your device. The massive invasion of privacy that comes with forcing all your internet history to some random goddamn internet filtering company that's probably selling which websites you visit to the highest bidder. There's nothing good about it. I legitimately cannot find a single good thing to say about this.
