The legislation is loving stupid
The people trying to pass it are even more so
Like honest to god, this is wrong in so many ways, even if it was just restricted to government-owned computers designed for use by the public. They already have filters installed. If they don't it's for a good reason. They can just kick out people if they're honest to god looking at loving research on a library computer, which I'd bet real loving money on that it happens so rarely that it's not even needed. Forcing them to put one on is completely redundant and handicapped.
The other thing stupid with it, the instances where this filter will actually come into play is so ridiculously small that the cost of even having the house and senate and congress debating on it far, far outweighs any possible benefits.
But the article doesn't say they want to limit it to library computers. They want to get it in everywhere that they can get it. Phones, tablets, desktop loving computers, random loving websites on the internet which already have goddamn NSFW filters. Like holy stuff cool your beans stuffhead, not only is research not a bad thing that you shouldn't be trying to hinder access to, but that adds a whole new level of bullstuff that people have to deal with. The embarrassment of having to prove that you're over 18 so you can look at research. The inability to have basic control over your device. The massive invasion of privacy that comes with forcing all your internet history to some random goddamn internet filtering company that's probably selling which websites you visit to the highest bidder. There's nothing good about it. I legitimately cannot find a single good thing to say about this.
